Good Bye

Round 16 of The Third Creation, 20 July 2003, and the last thing I made for the PlayStation 2.

The centrepiece is a wormhole, and the readme is refreshingly unheroic about how it got there: OpenGL is easy… so I quickly used DreamGL in order to create my wormhole. I had tried LibGL too — faster, but I never managed to get texture mapping working with it.

The music, by Alexel, runs through an XM player I had ported to the console in February of that year, built on Bruno Schodlbauer’s code. Unlike Bunny Tetris, this one was PAL and NTSC compatible from the start.

And then the goodbye itself. My interests had moved to game development, where interactivity brought a whole set of new things to write and to find out. There is a proper thank-you to SG2 — and to LongChair — for being the person who supplied both the motivation and the knowledge for PS2 development, a last hi! to Adresd for being such a good challenger round after round, a line in French to Nippy about how the platform hardly matters next to the fun of writing the thing, a wave at everyone on #ps2dev, and a thank-you to Sony for making such nice hardware.

Raizor, Adresd, Nippy and Nicola entered the same round.
