THE GERMAN SCENE BY THE VILLAIN OF HJT/BENEDICTION
The german scene ? Which german scene ? To be honest the german scene gets more and more boring . There are only a few guys left which are really known outside of germany (like MARABU HYPNOMEGA , ODIESOFT or maybe JUGGLER (who get's slower and slower)).
The german scene is hardly existing but on the other hand what would the european scene be without the small german one ?
I can tell you: Almost nothing !!! There are still coming great prod'for our country like RUNDSCHLAG,MEGA-BLASTER, KARATIAN, OILMANIA by ABLAZE of MOPS or of course DIGITAL PRESS by WOODMAN of HJT and me , hehe!.
Not much productions but there are still a lot of great one among it ... The problem is that there is only one group which has a lot of members who are really active : TGS/CREATORS. But it is very sad that they do almost nothing to get more known in france or other europeans countries.
BOLLAWARE is a german group and is very active and has realised a lot of productions like FRESTRIS,FRES FIGHT-ER II TURBO (it's terrific!).Now they are working on a fabulous game :BLACK LAND (adventure) with some animations and terrific graphixs on mode 1.
I want to create a compil' composed of some old but great games called :
- CPC GAMES CLASSIX 1 -
BENEDICTION is a new group.I'm the leader of it. We are working on DIGI-TAL PRESS 3 and on the EUROPEAN M-D.
ODIESOFT is working on his new zombie game. GFXs are made by REX
KILLER , HYPNOM and ALIEN are back on CPC . Some rumours say that ALIEN wants to restart BENG . The legendary PRODATRON is also back on CPC !
Amstrad user #8,Rundschlag #18 and CPC Special #2 are finished.
Electric monk of TGS/CRT finished his adventure game called SANDMAN. It needs 2 discs and is PD.
Inicron developed a 512k-expension for your CPC. For only 60 DM you get all the things you need for it.
We all hope that the scene will be a little be pushed again,if there are CPC emulators for almost every system available (PC, AMIGA,Acorn RISC PC).
IT is not very interesting to be active in the german scene only , if you have french , english , greek or irish contacts CPC scene is still very interesting.
To get more information about what is up in germany read : RUNDSCHLAG/ OVERKILL. Write to : BIOS ,postf.27 , 88475 Schendi , germany or to the distributor in your country. In france NO RECESS , in GB : GAVIN BLACK.

DDiscmags
The text as published in 1996, unedited.
At the beginning of the years MOR-TEL are back with their terrific DISC MAG, the fabulous DRACULA FANZ 5. So, we decided to test it. Greg is on the keyboard !!
After their great DRACULA FANZ 4 , they decided to make an other number, but more powerful with terrific GFXs with a fantastic code. Their level of coding is very good!
Ok ,let's stop talking and let's start working!
The first Intro is very great,it's composed of a vertical scrolling with some credits and some greetings.
The second intro is a little better The code is by EPSILON . This part is composed of some vertical rasters, an Hard scroll , some logo EPS and HDS and a great logo "DRACULA FANZ".
Between each parts there's a logo LOADING painted by the giant RSX.It's very impressive !!!
The first MENU was coded by RAMLAID There's an original effect with the GFX ( painted by RSX )that rebound in the screen .You can choise the articles by pressing the arrows. There's a zoom when you are on the name of the articles.
Now let's speak about the editorial It's composed of a big writer in the middle of the screen , some stars in the background, some equarasters and a cool tune by EPSILON(the text is in english).
After that it's the news , with the GHOUL'S WRITER . The scenario is very cool It's the delirium!
The next article is talking about the mags. This article is very technique coz' there's two HARD SCROLL(one at the top ,one at the bottom).A cool writer is in the middle of the screen There's a vertical scroller with the names of the zines that are tested :
( NEW ARCACE 6, BOXON 2, CPC QUEST 2, MAD MAG 2). This article is really great!
The next rub' is "entrevue" a cool article with a fantastic scenario and just to interviewed DRACULA!
After all this articles you can accede to the TURN DISC coded by OR-PHEE. There are 2 hard scroll , 2 terrific logos MORTEL and ARKOS painted by DRACULA and RAINBIRD , a kool writer and some equarasters (the tune is coming from PREHISTORIK 2).
The second MENU is very impressive coz' the screen leap . There are some equarasters (it's some sprites!). The terrific GFXs was painted by RSX and RAMLAID with his terrific level of coding has done a cool writer at the bottom of the screen.
The first article you can accede , is the test of the demos. This article is very great , with un gfx DEMO TEST an other cool graphix in mode 1 with next to it a writer . The demos that are tested are ONLY FOR YOUR EYES 2 , POWER SYSTEM MD and the BORDELIK DEMO 3 DEMO.
After this rubric you can accede to the MANGA: JAP'ANIME. This rub' is really powerful thanks to Its great tune , Its cool graphix and because the code is powerful.. There's a cool gfx of DRAGON BALL Z in the middle of the screen. The text is talking about the characters that are existing in the MANGA.
The next rubric is consecrated at the news. It's composed of a writer , a gfx by RSX in mode 0 and a SOFT SCROLLER .
There's a enormous test of MEGA-BLASTER in the next rub' with some GFX that are coming from the game, the tune is coming from the game too . In this article there are some great effects : some equarasters, a writer , two small logos ODIESOFT. great !
The next article is the TOP FANZ , a cool rubric with a gfx painted by ROCE, some equalizers, a great tune , and some rasters in the middle of the screen.DISCFULL 10 and DEMONIAK 4 are often well placed . The rub' is very pleasant to read.
'SOUVENIR' is the next article. The design is great. It's a retrospective of the demos that are existing since 1984. This article is really interesting!
You can accede to the next article 'BUGS MEETING' that is composed of a GFX and a logo. This article sum up the meeting ( the participants , the atmosphere).
To accede at the next MENU you can load the turn disc that have been coded by CHANY , it's a fabulous work , composed of a GFX TURN DISC (great!), some logos TURN DISC in overscan, some RASTERs and some animations. It's marvellous !!!
The third MENU was programmed by BEAST, with two terrific gfxs by MAT, a great tune composed by BIGALEC on ATARI ST, un little scroll . You can choise the differents rubrics coz they're scrolling in the middle of ze screen!
If you want to be better to progra mmed so you can see the next article. It's a text about SPLITS RASTERS . The tune is a little boring , the gfx not very good but the level of coding is very good . This article is interactive you can choise different sinus curves , you can read an hard scroll. There's a big writer in the middle of the screen.
The next cool rubric is the 'FREE-DELIRE EXTENTED PART'. The first rub'is coded by DRACULA (the tune is very great!). The second part was coded by AST , there's a plasma effect in the middle of the screen , 2 hard scrolls (one of them is terrific!) , you can listen 3 different tunes and don't forget the great logo FREEDELIRE...
The next article is talking about the ZE MEETING. It's a cool rub' with a great design (with a cool grphix on mode 0 painted by RSX).The atmosphere ,the participants, you know everything about this meeting . The gfx is very funny (do you want an other dose ?).
I think that the next rub' is the best of this disczine . The design is perfect: a writer ,an hard scroll and a fabulous gfx by RSX . It's the credits. The cheat (or shit?) is very impressive, there's a draughtboard in the middle of the screen that is moving from everywhere ( HAHAHAha sacre BEAST, s'est bizarre mais mon CPC ne veut pas faire bouger ton damier!?)
The third TURN DISC was coded by chany . This part is composed of a background NUL PART SYSTEM that is scrolling . There's a rolling sprite in the middle of the screen. The tune is great!
The last rubric is the END PART coded by AST , composed a an original writer and an hard scroll.
That's all for this test of DF#5 , this number is marvellous but the tunes are too well-known but in general the code is powerful and the GFXs splendid . Some text are yet a little old are sometimes not very interesting but in general it's great!
Let's read the other articles...

EPapermags
The text as published in 1996, unedited.
Keep on working CPC fanzmakers ,you are the best thing for that the CPC still alive ( perhaps for a long time ...).
In this issue,we want to talk about 3 papermags,3 french mags exepted one that half of articles are in english.
The first one is perhaps the more known in france : QUASAR CPC 10 . The second one is a little zine but the fun is guaranteed , it's M&C 23 . The last one has impressed me , it's full of interesting articles about the european scene, about the news:EUROSTRAD Let's start with QUASAR CPC 10.It's a great papermag realised with the legendary OXFORD PAO , the pagination is really nice, with some cool DIGITs
Both first pages are composed of 2 fantastic DIGITs realised thanks to the "scanner dart", it's impressive !
If you've got a CPC new generation, QUASAR is you mag, OFFSET ( the chief editor) knows everything about this computer (3 pages are consecrated for the DMA!).
There's a cool article about the DEMOMAKING where OFFSET show us how to realise a PLASMA EFFECT.The rubric is very explicit.
There's an enormous test of MEGA-BLASTER of three pages that describe the menu ,all the options , the level of coding, the graphics , the tunes , the sound etc... This games has got 90%.
"CPC on the net" is a cool article about the world of CPC on INTERNET You have the different sites about the CPC , like : AMSTRAD HOME PAGE or KEVIN THACKER'S UNOFFICIAL AMSTRAD CPC WWW RESSOURCE ( the best site on the CPC according to OFFSET).
In this papermag you can find some infos about the MEETINGs, the NEWS.
A new extension for your cpc , the RAMCARD. You can find the synoptic of the RAMCARD (very easy to understand) in the pages of diz' mag , its functioning, its composition ...
In short, this papermag is varied, very interesting with a fantastic pagination ... 90 %
Now it's EUROSTRAD's turn . The 8th is really terrific , TOM POUCE , the chief editor has realised his mag perfectly.
First of all, this zine is original Bcoz' the articles are either in engish or in french, moreover the pagination is really great ...
This mag contains a lot of articles about the news of france or from abroad. For exemple , we learn that a playable demo of DOOM is came out on CPC (cool !),that FRES FIGHTER 2 TUR-BO is fantastic , that BLACK LAND is certainly the best adventure game on CPC..... Well , a lot of interesting thing, it's really cool !
There's a lot of articles consecrated to foreign mags from germany , england or greece: for exemple TRIBAL MAG 5 that is come out; CPC is realised by one of the best greek group .
If you want to put a switch on your second DRIVE (DRIVE A , DRIVE B) it'spossible thanks to this zine.
We are informed about the last hot SLIDE SHOW existing on CPC from DIGITAL DREAM for exemple .
TOM POUCE thinks that there aren't enough games on CPC , yet some groups have realised that the CPC has need games to survivre (EPSILON,BOLLAWARE, ELIOT,CONDENSE,MORTEL,ODIESOFT,FUTUR'S!).
If you are interesting by the new french tools (PROCOPY 3.0,KEEPER 1.0, SPAWN, MASTER+) there's no problem , you've got their process.
At last, there's nothing to say,diz papermag is full of informations,it's really an exelent work on behalf of the writers . This issue contains 14 pages...(TOM POUCE has even writen an article about INTERNET!). 91%
The last one is the small one, just 5 or 6 pages, but what pages !There's some news, some deliriums etc....
The chief editor, the boss of BABAR ,SONIC'3 has realised a great number, with a lot of news. On the first page there's the editorial, the summary and the greetings. The second page is talking about the hard rock and the trach, it's cool when you are a passionate of this music. On the third page, it's a little survey about the new design of this papermag . There's a test of best game of the year 1995, EPSILON has called it TETRIS 95 . On the last page ,EPSILON show us how to realised a equalizer.
In conclusion, it's a little zine, very cool and funny too, thanx to you SONIC'3...

FDemos
The text as published in 1996, unedited.
The demos are numerous , the demomakers are working very hard , the french scene is very active, and nobody complain of that.
First of all , I want to talk you about the MORTEL's productions that are quite numerous. For example SEB', who was not a very good coder has got now a high level of programming . He realised a MAXIDEMO called X-FILES, that is very powerful . I think that MORTEL has got very good coders (SEB RAMLAID,BEAST) and a fantastic GFXman (MAT!).
Let's start with the test of the famous X-FILES...
The first part is just a little intro coded by SEB' with a cool GFX MORTEL painted in mode 0 by MAT and the credits..
The second intro is also very easy but the design is great . It's a GFX X-FILES painted by EPSILON with an adaptation of a cool music that come from ROBERT MILES.
The first real part was realised by the BIG BOSS, DRACOUCHE CULOTTE alias DRACKING alias DRACTOSORE alias DRAC-TEUR alias DRACULA (yeah man you're a cool guy!). It's composed of a big GFX (my girlfriend !) painted in mode 0 by the famous RSX , a logo X-FILES that is moving right-wing on the left and at last there's an hard scroller.
The main part is a little better. Composed of a great GFX X-FILES painted by MAT that is going right-wing on the left up above of the screen. There are some vertical rasters in the middle of the screen, some rupture two writers (one for the greetings) , two other logos DROP ZONE and MORTEL, and an animation with a bubble at the bottom of the screen. Moreover you can choose between 2 musixs.
Now,let's talk about the cheat part composed of: At the top of the screen there's a terrific gfx MORTEL painted by FAFA,next to that there're two littles GFX X-FILES going from top to bottom, in the middle of the screen , there's a vertical scroller and at last a little writer ( the fonts are are really cool!)
In conclusion , diz' MAXIDEMO is powerful, with a great design , the tunes are in general news and the textes are delirious !!!
Always by the MORTEL team,BIG CHE-ESE 2 iz a demo realised by MAT.MAT is a very good GFXman , and his level of coding is more and more high.
First of all, there's a little intro with some GFXs (MORTEL,BIG CHEESE II)and some rasters are coming before the logo and some others are coming behind the GFXs.The credits appear in the middle of the screen.
The main part is very good because of the great gfxs. At the top of the screen there's a fantastic GFX "BIG CHEESE 2", underneath, there are some rasters (you can choose between a lot of different rasters tables, PARALLAX RASTER...). Below of that there's a GFX MORTEL, always below, an original writer and at last a great gfx DRACU-LA FANZ'. You've got the choise between 2 zics.(Diz' part is very nice!) Do you want me to talk about the CHEAT PART? yes or no ? yes? OK,let's talk about this little masterpiece... It's start with a little text at the bottom of the screen ( the font are a little strange!),this text is talking about the EPSILON's story and the boss DRACULA , it's very funny, moreover the gfxs and the sprites in mode 0 are fantastic. You can see the sprite of the small PESPSILOUNE and the animation of the nasty DRACULA in his tomb... The scenery is very beau-tiful.
At the end of this story there 's a reset (in fact a wrong reset!) , and when you push a key , you accede to the second part of this cheat part This part is not very impressive, but funny. There's a writer,a sprite animation and a GFX KAKOS (ex ARKOS!).
This second demo by MAT is great & funny too, the design is perfect, the GFXs wonderful but most of the time , the tunes are too well known ...
EPSILON, the most productive CPC user in france is back with a great musik pack realised to show KOD that he can do some terrific things on CPC. Let me explain the story between KOD and EPSILON: In SEX 2, KOD gave some fucks to PEPSILON, why ? Because KOD thought that the EPSILON's intro of the FREEDELIRE MEGADEMO was coded by HYDRIS and not by EPSILON, why? No one knows... Moreover KOD gave in SEX 2 for the soundtracker demo 1 coded by EPSILON not more than 40%,yet this music box is really good !!! So our little EPSILON decided to creat an other music pack called ANTHOLOGY...
The first intro is very impressive composed of a great tune and a really terrific effet based on the vertical rupture.(impressive!!!).
The second part is still more powerful. At the beginning you can choise between the french or the english The zixx is very great, at the top of the screen, there's a fantastic logo ANTHOLOGY painted by MAT on which a cool writer appear . The great effect of this part is the spectral sprites. (very very cool!) , the GFX in mode 0 by EPSILON are fabulous...
The main part is in fact a music pack that contains 66 in memory, most of them are terrific (all composed by EPSILON!), moreover , the design is terrific...Diz' demo is certainly the best french production of this year 1996...
That's all , If you are intereted by this demos write me and send me a disc, hope you've enjoyed this article GREG/CONDENSE/BENEDICTION 1996

GGames
The text as published in 1996, unedited.
Hello and welcome in this article about the video games on CPC!
We want to test in this number :
-FRES FIGHTER II TURBO -FRESTRIS -SUPER SIMON
BOLLAWARE , the german group , is making a lot very good games for CPC! I thing that It's the best idea for that the CPC still alive.
Now,the coders prefer making games instead of making demos ,why not ?
Ok,now let's speak about the fantastic FRESTRIS ,a game by BOLLAWARE, of kind of TETRIS with more options.
The main menu is very cool, coz', you can see the highscores or save them. You can play at this games with 1 or 2 players simultaneously so it's very funny.
You can choose the width of the screen . In the main menu there's a messages in the form of scroll with a terrific woman in the middle of the screen.
The game is on mode 0 so the GFX are really great. In each levels, you can see differents gfxs in the background .
When the game is finished you can choose between holding the games, or to continue!
The code is powerful so the game is perfect with a good animations. But sometime it isn't very playable !
In conclusion this game is great , with good GFXs , good animations and moreover the options are numerous!
Ok what about speaking about the terrific game "FRES FIGHTER II TURBO" that is certainly the best fighting video games on CPC.
In the menu you have different sort of options . You can play with 2 players simultaneously and it's revolutionary for a simple CPC.
In addition to that, the GFX are really good on mode 1.
You can choose between two charaters . The first is a woman , the second is a monster (a mixing between a dog and a dinosaur!). The sprites are quite big and yet It's very playable!
There are 1 special hit per characters , I find that It's original for a CPC ,moreover this special hits are impressive.
The animations are very fluid so the fun is garanteed.
There's a little problem, because there isn't a music , even if the sounds are rare in this game they are cool !
The screen is in horizontal overscan , and the gfx in the background is always the same but it's still a nice drawing!
From that I conclude that this fighting games is terrific . The animations and the GFXs are really fantastic, It's a real masterpiece !!!
The last game is -SUPER SIMON- , a little game coded by EPSILON of POWER SYSTEM.
The principle is easy : there are some colors that are flashing in different order quite fast ( with a little sound ! ) and after you have to find the right order !
The code is not very powerful but the fun is garanted.
The music is very funny and the gfxs in mode 0 are great !
In conclusion this game is simple, but not too bad !
Ok, this article is drawing to a close so bye bye and see ya soon !!!

Right, today we're going to try to make a WRITER in BASIC (the idea is GREG's: he told me it would be original, since nobody's covered that kind of thing in a fanzine. (Personally I'd rather code it in ASM... oh well!)
Come on, enough of that, there's work to be done...
First of all, to make a WRITER you need to know how to display a letter, and for that you have to copy a byte from address X to a byte at address Y. In BASIC, we use the 2 instructions PEEK and POOK. For example, you'd write:
POKE Y ,PEEK(X)
We poke the contents of address X into address Y. But now, how do we display a letter? Well, all you have to do is make a loop like this:
10 LIGNE=8:X=&4000:Y=&C000 20 POKE Y,PEEK(X) 30 POKE Y+1, PEEK (X+1) 40 LIGNE=LIGNE-1:IF LIGNE 0 THEN END ELSE X=X+&800:Y=Y+&800 50 GOTO 20
LIGNE holds the number of lines to copy, X the source address and Y the destination address. We poke the value at X into Y, and the value at X+1 into Y+1, we decrement LIGNE, and if the result isn't 0 we add &800 to X and to Y, so as to move down one line, and we do the display again. (As you'll have seen, this little routine copies a block 2 bytes wide by 8 lines high from address &4000 to address &C000.
Right, now that we know how to display a character, we need to work out the address of the letter we want to display in the font. For that, we use a variable I'll call the offset, which you'll have to add to the address of the font to get the address of the letter. (You're following, I hope!). Assuming the first letter of the font is an "A", the offset will be equal to:
DEPL=(LETTRE-65)*2
Where LETTRE is the variable holding the ASCII code of the letter to display... This is only valid if your font is displayed on screen at &4000 the same way it will be displayed at &C000. (I know, that's not very clear!). Actually, if you grab your font with FONT CATCHER or any other capture program, your font will be laid out in memory linearly: the first 2 addresses will hold the 1st line, the next 2 the 2nd line, and so on... In that case, the offset will be:
DEPL=(LETTRE-65)*2*8 (Huit lignes de haut!)
It goes without saying that you'll also have to adapt the letter display routine... You'll also need a test that lets you exit the WRITER (for example ASCII code 255 in the text). You can also test for two consecutive values to pick the number of the line you want to write on. (Which lets you write on the 10th line, then the 5th, then come back to the 11th...) That way you can make a WRITER with a bit more style than a normal WRITER!
Right, I'll leave you to meditate on all that, hoping you'll be inspired by my words of wisdom... By the way, you should normally find a BASIC program on the disc illustrating everything I've said in this beginner's course...
SEE YOU SOON ...

Hello everybody into this article written by No Recess of Condense !
At first, I wanted to speak about scrollers who use flipping technic but I'm very lazy to translate it !! So, I'm going to speak about routine called "test-keys" (without system vectors like &BB06 or &BB09...).
Before all, I want to thank Zack from Futur's and Tom & Jerry from Gpa because my routine was bugged (didn't work correctly on plus machine). Big thanks are going to Rundschlag #16 for informations...
So, let's start ! In this article you'll found the main routine and his board informations. The board allow you to know the code of your key. By example, if you want to test the "A" key, see in the board and you'll read &48 and &DF. Next, you must put the value &48 (you've found in the board) in the A register (like this way: LD A,&48). Next, you call the test routine by this way: CALL TESTKEYS. To finish, you must compare if the key is pressed with the second value found in the board (by example, for the "A" key, you must do: CP &DF). So, let's start by the board:
2nd value ==> &7F &BF &DF &EF &F7 &FB &FD &FE 1st value &40 . numeric Enter f3 f6 f9 &41 f0 f2 f1 f5 f8 f7 copy &42 control ??? shift f4 ??? return ??? clr &43 . / : ; P ??? - ??? &44 , M K L I O 9 0 &45 space N J H Y U 7 8 &46 V B F G T R 5 6 &47 X C D S W E 3 4 &48 Z caps lock A tab Q esc 2 1 &49 del ??? joyF2 joyF1 joy joy joy joy
By example, to test the esc key, you must type:
LD A,&48 ; first value A = &48 CALL TESTKEYS ; key pressed ? CP &FB ; compare with &FB JP Z,... ; if the esc key is pressed, so jump to...
Now the test-keys routine:
TESTKEYS LD (TESTKEY1+1),A
LD BC,&F40E
OUT (C),C
LD BC,&F6C0
OUT (C),C
XOR A ; These 2 lines are necesarry otherwise
OUT (C),A ; the routine doesn't work correctly
LD BC,&F792 on CPC Plus.
OUT (C),C
TESTKEY1 LD BC,&F600
OUT (C),C
LD B,&F4
IN A,(C)
LD BC,&F782
OUT (C),C
LD BC,&F600
OUT (C),C
RETThat's all !
What about some greetings ?! So greetings are going to:
Catloc - Odiesoft - Marabu - Mage - Offset - Antoine - Epsilon
Rainbird - Dracula - Beast - Orphee - Mat - Nicky One - Squat
Targhan - ATC - Sonic 3' - Zack - Chany - Grees - Eliot - Ast
One - Crtc - Slice - Juggler - JFMC - Siggy - Candy - Manly
Kaneda - Ramlaid - Razor ...and others !
Bye Bye Boy and see you in the next Condense games...

JLitterature
Translated from the text published in 1996.
Remember, it was a few months ago, when BABA FANZ was still on paper: I'd promised you a future rub' on the history of CPC magazines, provided you showed some interest in the subject. Result: not one letter, but I won't hold it against you, since I'm hugely behind on my own mail. GREG knows a thing or two about that...
So, after doing the rounds of the SORACOM publications (AMSTAR, CPC, CPC INFO,..) we're paying a visit to LASER MAGAZINE. This publisher doesn't ring a bell? If I say AMSTRAD MAGAZINE, does that help? First of all I must confess, I missed the first issue of this magazine, and exactly 11 years after its launch I'm still looking for it. So, if anyone is willing to lend it to me so I can photocopy it, or sell it to me, write to me !!!
LASER MAGAZINE already publishes LASER, the electronics magazine, as well as MSX MAGAZINE, devoted to the MSX standard (Thomson).
The first issue of AMSTRAD MAGA-ZINE came out in July/August 1985, one month after the launch of the magazine CPC, and at exactly the same price of 18 Francs. On the contents page, 37 programs put through the test bench, 15 pages of listings, an X-ray of the CPC 464, and the presentation of a big novelty, the CPC 664. Sadly I can't say any more about that first issue, so let's go through the second in detail. On the front page, the photo of the bosses of PPS, the British publisher, and of ERE informatique, the French publisher, who had signed a deal for mutual distribution of their creations. And right below it, scoop, the photo of the new AMSTRAD computer, the 6128.
The latest games out get put to the test, KARLS TREASURE HUNT,L'APPREN-TI SORCIER, BEACH-HEAD, CONFUZION, LE MYSTERE DE KIKEKANKOI , HARD AT MACK AMELIE MINUIT , JAMMIN , SUPER SONIC GREMLINS, MISSION DELTA , as well as a few utilities, AMS-ASM,AMSTRA-DIVARIUS , D.A.O , SUPERCOPY , and the EASYs (EASY REPORT-EASY FILE-EASY GRA-PH-EASY BANK).
In this second issue of AMSTRAD MAGAZINE you'll find tests of TURBO PASCAL, of the DDI-1 disc drive for the CPC 464, sold at 2490 F !!! AHHHRRRRGGGG. Also a report from AMSTRAD FRANCE, from ERE, a first programming course, some listings (GARFUNKEL, and a little word processor). In short, we're dealing with a serious magazine, a bit austere even, and independent of the AMSTRAD company despite the title, which will earn it some trouble, as we're about to see.
December 1987, issue 27: AMSTRAD wins the lawsuit brought against AMSTAD MA-GAZINE, forcing it to change its name. AMSTRAD FRANCE seems to want to substitute its own magazine, and also goes after CPC and AMSTAR from SORACOM. But with its 90,000 copies in circulation, the magazine holds firm, and in January 1988 takes the name AM MAG. Curiously, while AMSTRAD FRANCE forbids any magazine from using its name in the title, a new magazine appears. Its boss is a distributor who was presenting the brand at the September SICOB in Paris. Figured it out? OK, I'll come back to it in a future section, in a future BABA FANZ'. But back to AM MAG.
On the first of March 1989, the presiding judge of the 3rd chamber of the Paris high court bans the use of the title AM MAG, whereas fraudulent imitation must be judged by taking into account the overall resemblance, and not the differences of detail. If the syllable AM is only a prefix, in the computing field it takes on a particular meaning because of the fame of the AMSTRAD brand, and is it the essential element of it? That could be an article in itself, and I don't have the room to go into detail here. The magazine wants to keep serving the 700,000 CPC users in France, and is going to change its name once again. And the numbering will start over from zero, unlike what happened the first time, since AM-MAG started at issue 30 and finished at 45.
So the first issue of MICRO MAG comes out in May 1989. Well well, it's no longer devoted only to the CPC, but covers ATARI, AMIGA, the PC. You still find quite a few articles on our favourite machine, tests, listings, tutorials,... but it feels odd to realise that barely a quarter of the magazine's 178 pages is of interest to us. On top of that, it went up to 22F at the start of the year.
Little by little, the columns devoted to the CPC vanish from the magazine. In February 1990 the magazine goes up to 25F and is down to just 80 pages. That's what they call a new formula in that issue 10. There are only a few pages of CPC listings left. With issue 11 it gets even worse, since it's an ATARI ST SPECIAL. Nothing at all on the CPC anymore !!! In issue 12, a few last scraps of articles devoted to the Amstrad CPC, one page explaining how to fit a 5"1/4 drive on a 6128. Finally, issue 13 would be a CPC AMSTRAD listings special. The swan song, in a way, since that would be the end of the story between LASER PRESSE SA and the CPC. Issue 13 did not bring us luck.
There you go, I'll see you again next time, if this section interests you... GREES of the NPS.

KVideo'90
Translated from the text published in 1996.
- The life of video games 90' -
-The year 1990 was very promising when it came to games, software and demos; let's not forget that this was the year the CPC+ and the GX-4000 arrived in force. Unfortunately the CPC+ wasn't exploited that year by the publishers, I mean of course on the disc format that we all have.
-On the other hand, the cartridges, at a fairly affordable price, made very good use of the new graphics and sound capabilities offered by the machine. For example the sublime -NAVY SEALS- as well as ROBOCOP II, PANG; anyway that year the best GX-4000 games would arrive. Still, it's a shame this console never rivalled the NES or the MASTER!
-Right, let's not dwell on that subject and talk more about our C.P.Cs. First of all, in 90' there was the AMSTRAD EXPO which ran for 3 days ... -From 16 to 19 November 1990, and it would be the sixth year running; the new releases were there as promised, with the English, Germans and French presenting their software. OCEAN was the most productive company that year on cartridge and disc. And ACPC was on top of all that !
-Reviews and mail were overflowing in the magazines and in ACPC's offices. The CPC INFO editorial team carried on with all the listings, the enthusiasts were at their keyboards making us games, demos, or even graphs and zics, not forgetting the few fanzines that were starting to appear such as Fanatic, L'echo des crocos, Microswich and Microboy ..
-There was even an advert for the CPC+ and the GX-4000 on television, and that computer sold very well during that year, along with the console, but soon afterwards the console was selling 3 times worse, because games were no longer being made and for the publishers it wasn't profitable to produce software...
-On the utilities side, l'equinoxe by POUM had just come out, and by the way several publishers were using it in their producs'. Lots of compilations were on offer that year --> among many others there were les fous du volant, collection 2 .... And among the games we find, B.A.T, Shadow of the beast, Crazy cars II, Prince of persia, jaws with DIGITISED voices!...
-The listings offered in the magazines in assembler, or those long basic programs to type in that take longer to write than you spend playing them, were sometimes useful, but you got tired of them fairly fast. On the other hand, some assembler progs from the Logons Systems were very useful for those wanting to get started in programming ...
-Magazines such as GEN-4, JOYSTICK and TILT talked about the CPC a lot, especially JOYSTICK which devoted long articles to our good old machine! In April 1990 AMSTRAD was talking about building a new machine: the GHETO BLASTER, which was supposed to have a colour LCD and a CPC drive. And on top of that, the whole thing could be portable ! (pure bliss, eh!). But alas this idea was quickly abandoned !
-The companies around in those years, and very active, were JESSICO as well as MICROMANIA. Games were plentiful but piracy very common, well, we're not going to complain about that.
-Hey, let's talk a bit about the fanzines present on the scene at the time: HACKER MAG was a zine made with OXFORD PAO, in which you'd find news, reviews and a few highly interesting technical sections.
-Another fanzine: - FANATIC - was also around, made by a certain Gerard laurent (cool). It was released on a disc, and the postage cost was cheaper than nowadays, only 3.80 Francs... -That issue was specially dedicated to Fabienne Egal, with digitised pictures and dedications. Besides the usual sections, we found in it a very nice little Space Invaders that nostalgics for the dark arcade halls really must own. This fanzine was periodically irregular in its release.
-Right, there we go, I think I'm done with this section and this year 1990; I said there was a lot of production on CPC/CPC+ and a few fanzines were appearing. Demos were still very thin on the ground. The few demomaker groups were there, but weren't producing much, and meetings were completely absent.
-Next issue, we'll talk about the year 1991, which was more promising for our famous machine.

LCNX Club
Translated from the text published in 1996.
The CPC scene, as everyone knows, is not dead but is fading out little by little. Fortunately though, there is one virtual place on this earth that is untouched, or barely, by this erosion. This magical place is not unfindable or camouflaged or even cut off from the world. This spot can be reached by almost anyone. To open the gates of this CPC paradise, you need to own the humble MINI-TEL along with its access code. This magical universe answers to the sweet name of CNX*#CPCCLUB on 3614 (that's 0,37 to 0, 13 F/min).
I know, I know, it seems long and complicated. But when you love something, you don't count the cost! Well anyway, I'll give you the infallible technique (what a hack, worthy of an ASM coder) to remember it properly. Repeat after me: CNX as in CoNneXion, staaar, haaash, CPC as in CyberPunk Corporation (NB: that doesn't exist (yet!) CLUB of night !.
Let's shed a tear for those who never got to discover Minitel and so will never become pioneers of this new virtual paradise that is a CNX, or rather CPCCLUB (NB: this sentence is here so BABA FANZ' can hold its own at the fanz' Oscars).
Let's start with CNX: what is CNX is then? It's quite simply a Minitel server similar to TEASER. These two services could be likened to the WEB of the INTERNET (tm). Their role is to create small "amateur" servers run by an administrator (a guy who runs things, not a machine!). Then, members can sign up to these mini-servers if they have a BAL on CNX (the equivalent of an E-MAIL address). This bal gives access to all the mini-servers, and all CNX members can exchange messages with each other.
The #CPCCLUB is one of these servers. It's run by SIRIUS (except when he's too busy, others take over). It gives access to several interactive databases. Two of these databases are:
-Le mur des adherants -La SR (salle de reunion)
The members' wall is a series of messages the members want to share with the others. These messages are sorted from newest to oldest. The interactivity lets you reply directly to the author by leaving a message in their bal, simply by tapping ENVOI. That saves you getting mixed up with the handles, forgetting to reply, or even wasting too much time.
The SR is a place where the members connected to it meet live. They can write to each other and write to each other and reply quickly. As soon as a member validates their text, a message appears at the top of the screen of everyone connected to the SR, saying there's a message to read. To read it, just press ENVOI (as in envoie la sauce). What's more, an official SR takes place every Saturday from 22H30. Its report is published on the members' wall.
I'll finish this article with the personal bal and with how to sign up (because I suppose if you've made it this far it's because you're interested . so...).
To sign up to #CPCCLUB, all you have to do is launch it with the code. That will automatically create a bal when you give your details. To access your bal you would then do 3614**pseudo. Your bal can be changed later on. That's really handy, especially with bal pirates on the prowl... You'll have to connect at least once a month. It doesn't cost much. Me, I connect every week for at least 20 minutes + one 1h, 1h30 SR per month, which makes (20*4+90)* 0,13=22F10 a month ! CNX offers you other options such as: reading/writing a message, the horoscope, the key combinations for making text blink etc.... Access to the clubs (they call them CI there)...
There you go, all that's left is for you to connect to this CPCian fountain of youth (especially on Saturday nights!) by typing, let me remind you, 3614 CNX*#CPCCLUB. There are already more than fifty of us... we're waiting for you. MICK'RO CEMPORIA/FANSS/ INT 20H
