The fifth Baba Fanz, put out by Scorpion in 1995 and written with Greg, ATC and Babar. It wants 128K and AMSDOS, and runs on every CRTC — which, for a diskmag of that period, was the difference between being read and being passed over.

BABA FANZ #5 IS IN YOUR DRIVE.

Hi lads (er, the girls especially — there are a few of them at CEMPORIA…!).

And no, you are not dreaming: BBF 5 is finally out. True, it was meant for the BABA FANZ MEETING, but a MEET is sadly too short to see to a whole fanzine…

On top of that NO RECESS went off to ENGLAND for a month, which held this number up a little.

AHHH yes, a few funny things happened while this issue was being made.

For instance, since NO RECESS was away on holiday I asked ATC to code the MENU of -BABA FANZ 5- for me; but when NO RECESS came back he coded me a near-identical MENU as well, which is why you can choose between ATC's MENU and NO RECESS's.

It was not planned, but when you think about it, it is fairly funny all the same.

The INTRO was coded 100% by NO RECESS — thank you, great MAN…

DUNK wrote a magnificent HARD SCROLL routine but did not have time to write the explanations.

-- SORRY --

The END PART was coded by me. It was my second production in assembly, the first being my PART for the BORDELIK MEETING 4.

That MEETING was brilliant, by the way, with a good twenty CPC people and about ten other computers.

Er, while we are at it, do not miss the release of the BORDELIK demo, which is going to be a smash.

And do not miss the release of the BABA FANZ MEET DEMO either, which holds 3 parts + a cheat part…

It is going to be a smash…

I sincerely want to thank DUNK, ATC, BABAR and NO RECESS for what they did in this issue.

I hope you will have a good time in our company and, above all, pass this zine on to all your contacts.

Do not miss the release of -BABA FANZ- 6, which really is going to be a smash, and the release of PUNCH, due around the end of December.

Now all that is left is to wish you an excellent read, OH GREAT READER OF MINE…

On that note I will leave you, coz' I have been running late ever since I became a boarder.

ENJOY

PS: DO NOT MISS THE RELEASE OF THE BOOGER -- SLIDE, WHICH WILL BE AS GOOD GFX-WISE AS ODYSSEY AND WITH SOME VERY GOOD CODE BY ATC.

IF ANYONE SAW THE PREVIEW,

WELL, IT IS TEN TIMES COOLER

NOW.

BNews

Translated from the text published in 1995.

Here you are in the section you've all been waiting for, yes, this really is the NEWS section.

To tell you everything , this column covers all on its own the PREVIEWS,and of course the news.

I hope the contents of this section will be useful to you,and if you spot something in it that you don't own, contact us !!!

In general the news I talk about has been confirmed by the creators , so you can trust what I've told you without fear.

Right, I'm not waiting any longer!

Right let's start with the DEMOMAKER group MORTEL who's going to make us a demo with ARKOS for the BORDELIK MEETING 4.

MORTEL has also finished the advert in demo form for DRACULA FANZ CINQ.DRACULA confided to me on the phone that he's thinking of doing another demo , so the wait for the release of DF5 isn't too long.(very good idea!!!)

NO RECESS is preparing a demo with ELIOT that will contain some morphing. It will supposedly look quite a lot like ARKOS' RASTABLAST.

A SCORPION demo is planned for soon, there will normally be 2 parts, one by NO RECESS and one by ATC ,if all goes well, there will be one of my latest unreleased ziks as well as my GFXs in ATC's part.

CHANY is preparing an MD with EPSILON I think, which is certainly gonna be a smash

EPSILON again,is preparing a game in mode 1 or 2, that's going to beat all the records,it will be the sequel to the TETRIS games , it will be TETRIS 95.

ATC and me GREG ,are preparing a brilliant SLIDE SHOW which will be called ... .......... BOOGER SLIDE ............ Don't you worry, there won't be any gross GFXs !!!

GHOUL'S FANZ 3 is out and it's really brilliant!

EUROSTRAD 6 is finished too.

ROAD RUNNER 4 is finished (COOOLL) DUNK,BABAR and ME are preparing a 3 part demo (+a cheat part) for the BABA FANZ MEETING which is surely gonna be a smash.

ELIOT has released the great ACID MUSIK BOX 2.It's much more technical than the first of the name code-wise, and music-wise too!!!

ELIOT again is preparing a new DISK MAG on CPC that's gonna be a smash big time and will fit on a single side.

With BABAR I'm preparing a new PAPER MAG ,which will be made 100% on CPC .We think we'll have some success because it will most certainly be the most original fanzine on CPC !!!!

MAT of MORTEL has coded a demo.

The DARK AGE MD will never come out as a MEGA DEMO ,but will come out in DEMO form.

EPSILON is going to do MAPPED 3D on our CPCs.

The members of FUTURS' are going to get stuck right into AVENTURY, DE RETOUR DES TENEBRES and BURGER PARTY .... FUTUR'S again will certainly produce a piece of software like the SOUND-TRACKER for the CPC + (I imagine!).

We're still waiting for the game by AST SYSTEM:ARKANOID SPACE INVADERS.

ELIOT has a game project which should be in good BASIC in the style of a game on PC.

NICKY ONE with SPHYNX is preparing something brilliant.the problem , is that I promised NICKY ONE not to tell (AAARRRRRFFFFFFFF!!!!) DRACULA will certainly create a PLATFORM game with AST after the release of DF5.

DEMONIAK 5 will come out I don't know when yet, but what I do know ,is that it's going to outdo issue 4

TOM & JERRY is preparing an even more complete version for the G-W.

NO RECESS has just released a compilation of ziks for the G-W.It contains around 30 very cool tunes . We're all waiting for the release of the ONCE YEARS OF CPC MEGADEMO by SONIC'3 It will be 5 times better than the TEN.

There you go I do believe I'm done with this section ,so I'll leave you with these last words....

CPC IS ALWAYS THE BEST
CPC FOR EVER
SCORPION FOR EVER

CBASIC

Translated from the text published in 1995.

HI EVERYBODY !

IT'S ATC ON THE KEYBOARD, TO GIVE YOU A QUICK AND WELL-DONE COURSE ON HOW TO DO RASTERS IN BASIC (IT WAS GREG WHO ASKED ME FOR IT FOR THE PREVIOUS ISSUE, BUT I HAD ALREADY FINISHED THE ARTICLE, AND I DIDN'T FEEL LIKE SPENDING TWO HOURS REDOING ANOTHER ONE ! I'D ALSO LIKE TO POINT OUT THAT IN THIS ARTICLE, WE'LL ALSO TALK A BIT ABOUT ASSEMBLY, BECAUSE IT'S HARD TO BRING UP RASTERS WITHOUT TALKING A BIT OF ASSEMBLY...

COME ON, ENOUGH CHAT, HERE WE GO WITH THE RASTERS !

FIRST I'M GOING TO GET YOU FAMILIAR WITH THE ESSENTIAL COMPONENT FOR DOING RASTERS: THE GATE ARRAY... IT'S THE ONE THAT HANDLES THE SCREEN MODE, INTERRUPT MANAGEMENT, CONNECTING THE BANKS, AND COLOUR MANAGEMENT. IT'S THIS LAST POINT THAT'S GOING TO INTEREST US... THE GATE ARRAY IS ADDRESSED DIRECTLY THROUGH PORT &7F00, AND IT PROCESSES THE ORDERS YOU SEND IT USING 8 BITS: 2 CONTROL BITS, AND 6 COMMAND BITS. THANKS TO THE TWO CONTROL BITS, YOU CAN GET ACCESS TO FOUR DIFFERENT MODES (IN BINARY, YOU HAVE TO SEND: 00 FOR MODE 0, 01 FOR MODE 1, 10 FOR MODE 2, AND 11 FOR MODE 3). TO MAKE OUR RASTERS, WE WILL ONLY BE INTERESTED IN MODES 0 AND 1, WHICH DEAL RESPECTIVELY WITH SELECTING THE INK THE RASTER WILL RUN IN, AND SELECTING THE COLOUR OF THE RASTER. SO, TO RUN A RASTER IN INK 1 AND IN COLOUR 26, YOU WILL WRITE:

EN ASSEMBLEUR: EN BASIC:
LD BC,&7F01 10 OUT &7F00,1
LD A,75 20 OUT &7F00,75
OUT (C),C
OUT (C),A

SO... I'LL DESCRIBE THE TWO EXAMPLES RIGHT AWAY... IN ASSEMBLY, YOU INITIALISE THE GATE ARRAY ON COLOUR 1 (&7F01), AND YOU VALIDATE WITH OUT (C),C. TO CHOOSE THE COLOUR, ITS VALUE HAS TO BE THE HARDWARE VALUE, TO WHICH YOU HAVE TO ADD 64 (TO FILL IN THE BITS). IF YOU DON'T OWN A SOFT-HARD COLOUR CONVERSION TABLE, WRITE TO ME, I'LL SEND YOU ONE... AND YOU VALIDATE WITH THE COMMAND OUT (C),A (I KNOW, IT'S NOT LOGICAL, YOU'D EXPECT OUT (B),A BUT THAT'S HOW IT IS !). IN BASIC, THE PROCESS IS MUCH SIMPLER: YOU SELECT INK 1 WITH OUT &7F00,1, AND THE COLOUR RIGHT AFTER WITH OUT &7F00,C+64 (I REMIND YOU THAT C IS THE HARDWARE VALUE !). I ALSO HAVE TO TELL YOU ABOUT SOMETHING VERY IMPORTANT: SYNCHRONISATION... IN ASSEMBLY, YOU DO A LOOP OF THE TYPE:

SYNC IN A,(C)
      RRA
      JR NC,SYNC

WELL IN BASIC, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TYPE CALL &BD19 (IT'S AN EQUIVALENT SYSTEM VECTOR).

SO YOUR BASIC PROG CAN HAVE THIS FORM

10 SPEED INK 1,1 'POUR GAGNER DU TEMPS MACHINE
20 CALL &BD19:OUT &7F00,0:OUT &7F00,83:OUT &7F0
0,68:OUT &7F00,VALEUR...:GOTO 20

YOU CAN EVEN ANIMATE THESE RASTERS, BY REMOVING THE CALL &BD19: INDEED, THEY ARE NO LONGER SYNCHRONISED ON THE SAME LINE, AND THEY GO DOWN OR UP. YOU'LL FIND (IF THERE'S ROOM) A LITTLE PROG THAT WILL SHOW YOU THAT YOU CAN DO NICE EFFECTS, EVEN IN BASIC !

RIGHT, I'M GOING TO LEAVE YOU, BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE MUCH ROOM LEFT IN RAM FOR THE TEXT...

A+++

Translated from the text published in 1995.

HYPER !! HYPER !! HYPER !! HYPER !!

Well then,I hope I'm not gonna get yelled at,but DUNK didn't have time to explain his routine ,so , look everyone , his SCROLL HARD routine is on this disc.

His SCROLL is made of bubbles of different colours , which makes the scroll very original.

What's more you're not forbidden to use it ...

If you'd like some explanations , write to DUNK.

You can of course tell us what interests you , that way in the next issue DUNK or somebody else will prepare us a routine and just for you ...

Right I'm going to leave you because this ZINE has to come out real fast ...

EDemos

Translated from the text published in 1995.

How's it going KIDS ????????

So,here's the demo section in which you'll get the reviews of all the new stuff on the INTROS,DEMOS side etc....................... There will certainly be a great number of demos because as the MEETINGS are pretty numerous this year, well,I think demos are going to rain down . Anyway , I hope that at the BBF MEETING the DEMOMAKERS' productions will come pouring in from everywhere !!!! right so what am I going to review for this issue 5 ?????????????????????????? have you got an idea ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????? To innovate a bit I'll review 2 intros and 2 demos. so here's the programme :

INTROS ù DEMOS

------ ù -----
  • INTRO OF GHOUL'S FANZ N"3 ù - AUTUMN 95 (advert for DRACULA FANZ 5) ù
- INTRO DU NPS PAR CHANY ù - PLASMA DEMO DE ONE

Come on,since I dunno what to start with,well I'll go from A to Z ! ! ! ! !

z'y va
AUTUMN 95 (BY AST AND MORTEL)

Not dumb to make an advert in demo form to announce the pretty close release of a fanzine . Besides the demo could have been botched , but that's absolutely not the case , because it's excellent work ...

The pretty technical side of this demo really pleases me , it's a demo made up of COOOOLLLLLLL effects !!!!!!

At the top of the screen , there's the DF5 logo bouncing ,below ,there's an AUTUMN 95 LOGO that SCROLLS at full speed from left to right. below that again,a text in English tells you about the upcoming release of DF number FIVE.

DRACULA's DESIGN is perfect ( FRANKLY WELL THOUGHT OUT !!),because he had the excellent idea of "synchronising"the bounces of the LOGO with the BASS of the ZIK.The whole of the demo is more than decent, all in OVERSCAN of course

NOTE : 17 / 20

COME ON WITHOUT FURTHER ADO LET'S MOVE ON TO THE INTRO OF GHOUL'S FANZ 3 !!!

INTRO OF GHOUL'S FANZ 3 (CODE BY NO RECESS)

So here's a good little demo(actually an INTRO)that surprises you right from the start with how much of the screen the SPLITS RASTERS take up . yyeesss because the SPLITS RASTERS take up more than 3/4 of the screen.

You can have fun changing the direction of the RASTERS,splitting the RASTERS in 4 . Not bad to make an interactive INTRO !!!

One moment the rasters go behind the LOGO,the logo then stays black, and another moment it's the opposite, that is the screen is empty and the LOGO holds the SPLITS RASTERS.

In short , this intro is excellent, and besides I encourage NO RECESS,because he has progressed very quickly and I thank him for what he said about me in his INTRO .(one last detail, the zik comes from me!)

NOTE : 16 / 20

that's all for diz intro so now I'm going to test you the last demo of the N.P.S ,HHHEEEEEUUUUU,the last intro.......let's go........

INTRO OF THE NUL PART SYSTEM CRACKS (CODE BY CHANY)

CHANY has really hit very hard this time by offering us a downright brilliant INTRO with :SCROLLS HARD, RUPTURE, ALL NEW RASTERS etc ...... the screen is stuffed 100 % full with several kinds of effects,at the top of the screen there's an NPS logo scrolling every which way,and the names GREES and CHANY, appearing each in turn.

Below , there's a very simple WRITER where the greetings and the messages are written.

Just below , it starts getting more interesting because CHANY offers us more than five kinds of RASTERS that all animate very differently. Below that again, there's some rupture with the NUL PART SYSTEM LOGOS.

And finally further down still ( oh yes , the demo has loads of effects ), a scroll hard runs by explaining a few details about the cracked games. Frankly, this intro is brilliant, hyper hi-tech , stuffed with effects each more interesting than the last, thanks CHANY for doing so well !!!!! NOTE : 18 / 20

======  +++++++
YYYYYYYYYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOW LET'S SPEAK ABOUT A WONDERFUL PRODUCTION BY A VERY GREAT CODER WHOSE

NAME IS ONE.IT WAS NORMALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO DO THIS SORT OF EFFECT ON CPC

BUT ONE ARRIVED TO DID IT.

PLASMA DEMO (CODE BY ONE)

GGGGLLLLLOOOOOUUUUUPPPPPSSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!! AAARRRRRRFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!! That was my reaction when I saw for the first time this splendid demo, the supposedly impossible-to-do effect is AMIGA PLASMA , if you don't know it well the best way to explain it to you, is to say that this effect looks like a painter's palette of colours all mixing together . Below there's a very simple scroll hard that talks a bit about the demo , and also about ONE's productions.

What's still a bit of a shame,is that the screen where the

PLASMA sits is pretty small and that outside the screen ,well, there's nothing else!! right in spite of everything this demo is one of my favourites because a PC guy had assured me that the superb AMIGA PLASMA was practically impossible to do on cpc, well ,I'm going to bug the hell out of him non-stop and show him that the cpc is nowhere near dying with such good coders(I remind you that ONE had also coded the ZOOM in the FREEDELIRE DEMO ...)

This demo deserves an excellent mark.

NOTE : 19,5 / 20

THAT'S ALL FOR DIZ PART SO I WISH YOU ENJOYED IT .....BYE !!!

FReviews

Come on, let's continue !!

Then you get the choice between several well thought-out options, including the game option. The turn disc is a hoot. The game is stuffed with animations and with great graphs, which means you won't get tired of it any time soon. The game has a lot of vocabulary and during the crazy game, use all your rude words.(GREG's note:Fuck, shit, crap, bugger, ooouuupppsss !!!).It's GREG's crazy moment, he's busy dancing some dance in his wardrobe.(GREG's note:It's not true,so there... !)In short this game is brilliant, stuffed with brilliant effects...

ULTIMATE TETRIS 87 %

                    ----

-A real quick little test for a real cute game. The aim of the game is still the same, but nevertheless the graphs are improved compared to the first version. The animations and the playability are excellent, a good little game, for fans of masonry (GREG's note:There's no cedilla)....

MOLECULE 81 %

                 ----

-Lovely graphs, good playabili ty some lovely animations, despite the lack of ziks the game stays 100 % relaxed, tough stuff, (time is cruelly short, unfortunately). The interest of this soft is giant. But above all

-your nerves will be put to a serious test

There you go this section is finished, I hope you liked it, for the first time on disk and above all expect a next issue, a great one, because there will be two fanzines in one, I'll say no more.. I will certainly be joining a group of hyper brilliant demomakers who have released a few works that , we liked. So I'll say no more then !!!!! WAIT AND SEE .... THANKS TO:

GThe story

Translated from the text published in 1995.

We're on the air !!!

-But what for ?!?

-Well what do you think !!!

-I haven't got an opinion,me !!

-Yeah,well right now we're keeping all the readers waiting,so .. -er,what readers ....

-dunno,so,what the hell are we doing here ????

-Ah,yes,I've got my memory back,at least I think so !!

-So here we are then in the sec'.. .....DEMOS....errr......BASIC....... ..NEWS....... well I'm not gonna list them all, anyway I've got no idea !!!And you over there wouldn't you like to help me ???

-Seeing as I still don't know what I'm doing here,I'm gonna go relax outside right away and climb up , a tree !!!

-Are you out of your mind !!!Deep down I know we've got something to do for our CPCist family... -There,I've finished monkeying around but still GREG,I can't find the solution to remember, what we're supposed to talk about ..

-Go and look at DARTY

-I've already been there, and well I still haven't found it.

-Right come on let's clear off !!!

GREG and BABAR 1995 from SCORPION

HEH HEH here we are again , you all fell for it?That was to see your reaction! Right let's go ...

Damn these crazy times, unbelievable, there's no stopping us lately.

For a first issue on disc we managed pretty well, and the atmosphere was downright brilliant !!

We had less work than for issue four but still, we had to bust a gut on the GFXs side, because on disc, well, you don't go about it the same way as on paper.Logical! Right I'll hand over to my bro (older than me though!!)

GREG has just woken me up I'd dozed off, right there we go now that I'm in a state to talk to you.Where to start, ah yes ... that's right I want to tell you that we really had a blast making this issue and the others too......... TOM & JERRY really had a good idea inventing GHOUL'S WRITER.

Right we're leaving you now wishing you a good holiday in compagnie de votre C.P.C. A +++

HLiterature

Translated from the text published in 1995.

Last-minute news: GREES couldn't take care of the literature column, so BABAR and me, GREG, decided to carry on with the LA VIE DES JEUX VIDEO column while waiting for GREES to come back next issue.....

Well, since it wasn't planned, we're going to try and muddle through as best we can to replace our colleague GREES, who very kindly apologised to you: THE READERS.

So that's it for the explanations — so without further ado, on with the L.V.D.J.V. column... (year 89).

Right, first event: AMSTRAD 100% is celebrating its first birthday. Oh yes, the CPC is doing better and better, nobody's complaining, and certainly not ACPC.

Since that year the greatest softs have been making their appearance — for instance the great ROBOCOP, and also DRAGON NINJA, WEC LE MANS, AFTER BURNER, NETHER WORLD and of course the brilliant CRAZY CARS 2 from TITUS, which made quite a noise (BABAR's note: VROOOOMM !!!!!.... ...GREG's note: er, why ???).

As for compilations, there was LES JUSTICIERS, which brought together — er, I haven't got the slightest clue !!! There was also the DYNAMITE compilation, which really didn't deserve its name, because it was actually rubbish ...

As for fanzines, I think there were already 3 or 4 of them, but certainly not as many as today. CROC'IDYLE and CPC MAGAZINE had already been around since 88 and carried on into 89.

The presentation was pretty average, and the fanzines — still called magazines in ACPC in those days — were cruelly short of GFXs.

Demos — well, there were a few. I could mention for example the BO DEMO by FEFESSE, one of the only guys working on demos back then, the YAO DEMO also by the great FEFESSE, I think; plus other productions by STEPHANE ST-MARTIN, who had created the magnificent JAWS (with voice digits and all the works to make that game a big HIT).

AH yes, I think there's also the POWER SYSTEM MD — well, I'm not too sure about that !!! (BABAR's note: And wouldn't there also be ONLY FOR YOUR EYES 2, by any chance ???)(GREG's note: hheeee uuuuu......).

Right, there we go, I don't think I've forgotten anything (BABAR's note: ohhhh yessssss you haaaave....) so I'll leave you until the next issue, with — let me remind you — the return of GREES.

RRRRRRREEEEEEUUUUUUUUNNNNNNN!!!!

A PLUSSE (y'a uneux faut te!)

IFanzines

Translated from the text published in 1995.

3 paper fanzines. Well yes — I reckon the disc fanz' are taking longer and longer to come out these days, so as to give us a MEGA FANZINE at the end of it (take the example of DRACULA FANZ' 5, which is going to flat-out blow the CPC apart, or DEMONIAK 5, which is going to improve yet again on issue four — when issue four is number one in nearly every TOP, so just imagine what comes next !!! ).

So on the disc fanzine side I'm going to review a German fanz translated 3/4 into English — I mean, of course, the excellent TRIBAL MAG 4.

On the paper fanz' side I'm spoilt for choice, so I'm going to review ROAD RUNNER 4 (DAMN, THIS FANZINE HAS MADE UNBELIEVABLE PROGRESS, THANKS TO BIP BIP, ROM, SLYDER and VET). I'm also going to review the brand-new issue of EUROSTRAD 6, and finally fanz' number two from the AFC (which has grown a bit !!).

So, to do the honours for the only disc fanz, I'll start with TRIBAL MAG #3.

TRIBAL MAG NUMBER 3

))))))))))))((((((((((((

if you're looking in there for a technical fanz' (with MEGA CODE), well, you can move straight on to another review, because unlike some, this fanz' is stuffed with text and not with super gfxs (although the tunes are mostly brand new, and really good quality on top of that !).

It's got, I think, 12 or 13 columns, every one of them enormously interesting — like for instance the "CPC SCENE" column, where there's a mega-long text about what's going on on the CPC (the news in games, demos etc ...).

There are still too many columns in German for my taste (especially since my marks in that subject are absolute CRAP — I've never written a sentence without realising it was riddled with HUGE MISTAKES, AAARRRGGGGHHHHH !!!) There's a very well made demo column, but it's odd, because for the Germans the ALTARS OF MADNESS is NEWS, when it's at least a year old or more !!!! ( AAAAARRRRFFFFF!!!!!! ).

This fanz has loads and loads of options — that is, you get a choice of how the text scrolls, or you can stop the MUSIC if it starts doing your head in, or also (something I appreciate enormously) you can print out the text.

What's more, there are usually two or three guys doing the same column, which makes the column seriously complete — and that's not stupid, because when the guys are of different nationalities, well, you get news from just about the whole CPC scene. As for the technical side, what gets my approval is the equalizers for each column and the TURN DISC, which isn't too badly coded. Anyway, this fanz is certainly one of the most complete on disc, thanks to its large number of contributors.

MARK : 16 / 20

NOW,I WANT TO TEST YOU A VERY COOL FANZ , THAT MAKE A LOT OF PROGRESS,IT'S CERTAINLY ONE OF THE BEST PAPER MAG ON THE FRENCH CPC SCENE. THERE ARE 3 MEMBERS :BIP BIP (THE BOSS) ,ROM (HE MAKES A LOT OF COOLS SLIDES),SLYDER , AND A YOUNG GIRL WHOSE NAME IS VET.

AAAARRRRRFFFFFF,I PREFER TO SPEAK FRENCH NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ROAD RUNNER 4

PHEW!!! It feels good to get my mother tongue back, because if I want to detail this fanz 100% I think I'd run out of vocabulary ...

Come on, I'll stop nattering, because it seems I'm right in the middle of the ROAD RUNNER 4 review.

HANG ON, I'LL GO AND FETCH IT, BECAUSE I HAVEN'T GOT IT IN MY HANDS !!!

SO!!!!!!, on the first page there's a sort of picasso with some guys playing music. The columns are: EDITORIAL (OF COURSE!), UTILITY AND FANZ' REVIEWS, GAMES, THE INVITATION TO ZE MEETING 95, FANZINES, ALL TO YOUR KEYBOARDS, THE BIG TEST, INTERVIEWS, some BASIC, COMIC STRIPS, HARD'N'RUNNER, HARDWARE etc etc ...... In fact there are 28 columns over 34 pages. The pages are filled to the brim, the columns are mega complete and really interesting too. You'll find every kind of column, and even electronics !!!

But watch out — on top of being mega complete, it's certainly the most beautiful fanz' layout-wise (gfxs from hell, borders etc ...) on the CPC. I promise you the digits are brilliant, and the humour in some of the graphs is absolutely irresistible !!!

The last page is a fantastic DIGIT of a sorcerer in a setting that's .. .... HMMMM ....... FROM HELL, BASICALLY !!!..............

And this fanz would have picked up 20/20 if it had included a column on the NEWS and on fairly recent DEMOS. Still, this fanz is an absolute must-have — I promise you it's one of the best on CPC (without bragging, I reckon it's on the same level as BABA FANZ' 4, QUASAR CPC 8 and EUROSTRAD 5, which are certainly the best on paper !)

NOTE: 18,5/20

Right, since I don't feel like doing a text in English between every single fanz !, well, this time I'll speak in French... but to say whaaat ???????

No, I'll stop pretending I don't know what I'm going to talk about, because I know perfectly well, so there !!!!!!!! Today I've just received from TOM POUCE his super fanzine EUROSTRAD number 6 (which kicks arse big time !!!) plus mag number two from the A.F.C. So I'll start straight away with .... drum roll ...........

EUROSTRAD NUMBER 6

On the first page there's the same graph as on BONSOIR LA PLANETE # 10 — that is, a guy holding his head in his hands. But you must be wondering why TOM POUCE picked that graph ! Well, quite simply because he's had big problems with his printer and his CPC ( AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH, that must be a real pain in the a....)

Whatever the case, they still managed to bring out an excellent issue, which was, it's true, enormously late — due partly to his GEAR !!!!!! This fanzine has info that just never ends: pretty much all the news from every country is written up in there. The fanzine is mostly in French, but there's also English, a bit of German, and I think that's it.

There are small ads, columns on the EUROSTRAD club, on the latest EUROPEAN fanz, on SLIDE SHOWS (VERY CLASSY COLUMN, THAT) and on loads of other things — for instance a feature on ESPERANTO on the CPC, or a feature on the English scene.

Gfx-wise there aren't many, but they're well chosen all the same. Right, all that to conclude that this fanz' is very complete, but maybe the layout could have been better !!!! (well, that's down to his printer!!!)

MARK: 16/20

OK,IT'S JUST A SMALL TEXT IN ENGLISH TO TELL YOU THAT I'M GOING TO SPEAK , ABOUT THE LAST AFC MAG.SO LET'S GO !!!!!!!!

AFC MAGAZINE NUMBER 2

<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>

So here's the review of the latest issue of the afc mag, which I received at the same time as EUROSTRAD 6.

So, what's new ?

On the first page, the editorial and a little article about the logo TOM POUCE made for the AFC MAG. By the way, if anyone's willing to make him a new LOGO, that would be NICE !!!

There are excellent gfxs, and on the second page the NEWS + the MEETINGS.

On the third page there are two columns, FANZINE STORIES (interesting!) and yet more news. ( CCCCCCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Then there's the famous column on COMPUTER PIRACY + an advert for a fanz (which has nothing to do with the CPC!) Then there are the small ads, and as usual the last page is reserved for the addresses of the AFC members.

MARK : 15.5 / 20

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU'VE REALISED IT, BUT YOU'VE STILL JUST READ 9 PAGES OF TEXT IN MODE 2, THAT'S STILL SOMETHING, ISN'T IT ??? RIGHT, OFF YOU GO — I'LL LEAVE YOU TO ADMIRE THE OTHER COLUMNS..................GREG....

JInformation

Translated from the text published in 1995.

in this information column ...

What do you reckon this column is for ??? Well, it's simple: we're quite simply going to tell you what's available at the editorial desk in the way of games, demos, utilities, slides and, of course, fanzs on disc or paper.

For the tiny little minority of tape-drive owners: don't panic, we've still got an enormous stack of games and a few utilities, coming mainly from the English magazine AMSTRAD ACTION.

So, let's start by listing the paper fanzines:

  • Most of the BONSOIR LA PLANETE issues
  • QUASAR CPC 6 to 8
  • The old issues of BBF
  • Every CANARD DECHAINE
  • CROCO WORLD 10
  • Every CPC QUEST
  • BOXON 1
  • Every ROAD RUNNER
  • EUROSTRAD 6
  • One issue of RUNDSCHLAG
  • Every LE FANSS
  • Every AFC MAG
  • M&C 19,20,21
  • MEGA FANZ NEWPAPER 5,6
  • INFO SYSTEM CPC 10 and 11

AND I'M PRETTY SURE THAT'S THE LOT !!!!

If you'd like some, all you have to do is send us a 4.40 F stamp plus a cheque for 10,000 Francs (oh yes, photocopies are expensive these days !!)

Now here's the list of disc fanzines available:

-QUASAR CPC 3 -CPC FOR EVER 2
-DISC FULL 9 et 10 -MAD MAG 2
-POT DE CALL 4 ET 5 -TRIBAL MAG 4
-DRACULA FANZ 4 -GHOUL'S FANZ 1a3

-DEMONIAK 3,4 -NEW ARCADE 6

-BOXON 2 -PHASER 5

And we can get hold of all of them, but we preferred to keep the new ones, and also the most technical ones.

Now for the demos — we're not going to list them all for you, or you'd still be sat at your CPC tomorrow!

I think we've got every demo from 94 and 95. We own a few demos from 93 (VOYAGE 93...), and ten or so demos from 89 to 92...

Now when it comes to games, we can't really brag, because we only own the latest ones, coming from FRANCE as well as GERMANY.

For instance we've got PARANOIA, LES MONDES PARALLELES, MOLECULE, SPOTS 94, and the PREVIEW of MEGABLASTER, plus games from RADICAL SOFWARE: MASTER OF SPACE, BALL BEARING.

We also own the best adventure games from LANKHOR, plus the best games: ZAP'T BALL, TURRI-CAN 2, PREHISTORIK 1&2, XYPHOES etc....

Now on the utils side — well, we've got quite a big pile of them, from DISCOLOGIE to OCP by way of SOUNDTRACKER, DAMS, MAXAM, DIGITRACKER PROTRACKER, or AMX, PROVERSCAN, MARK ERROR, GHOUL'S WRITER etc etc...

Right, as you'll have noticed, the list of everything we own is pretty hefty.

AAAAAAHHH yes — we also own a few SLIDES from DIGITAL DREAM, we've also got ODYSSEY, FILM X, some MANGAS, and plenty more besides, which are generally digits.

WARNING !!! DO NOT MISS THE RELEASE OF THE BOOGER SLIDE (by ATC and by me, GREG). Right, well, I think I've been clear enough — so if you want anything at all, ask for it !!!!!!!!

There you go, I've run out of ideas, so I'll leave you, hoping you enjoyed this column ...

KInterview

Translated from the text published in 1995.

  • HI EVERYBODY -

Welcome to this column, where one of my mega-friendly contacts is in the spotlight. Go on, a little clue: he's one of the best graphicians on our 'CPC's these days. You've guessed, I reckon. I'll tell you anyway — it's the fabulous

SPHYNX, (GREG's note: Don't you think you're laying it on a bit thick, BABAR..!), no I'm not — he's a nice guy, that's all....!!! HERE'S HIS INTERVIEW

First of all I'd like to thank him for how quickly he wrote back to me. THANXXXX BABAR :

What's your surname, first name, nickname, age, weight and height....

SPHYNX:

PHILIPPE Vincent [SPHYNX]. Yes, really !!! I'm 25, I'm 1.76 metres tall and I weigh 78 kg (not too fat, then !)

BABAR :

What gear have you got ...???

And for how many centuries — errrr, years... it must be the sun beating down too hard on my head... I'm risking sunstroke..

SPHYNX:

I've had a CPC 6128 (CRTC 2) for 8 years, with a tape drive and a CITIZEN 120 D printer, (BABAR's note: No, not a diesel printer),

(GREG's note: What CR.PPY humour from this

BABAR...).

BABAR :

What do you do for a living...?

SPHYNX:

I'm a sales rep and I work on a PC 486, (I'll be using it for a few texts for BOXON 3 !) BABAR :

Apart from the CPC, what else have you got...?

SPHYNX:

I've owned a SUPER NES for a short while now, with MORTAL KOMBAT 2 — I was hesitating between that and a MEGADRIVE....

(BABAR's note: I own both, but I've got a soft spot for my MEGADRIVE).

BABAR :

Do you program, and in which language,

MACHINE CODE, BASIC.... And are you part of a group of demo-makers....

SPHYNX:

I've only been discovering assembler for the last 4 months, thanks to

NICKY ONE... (BABAR's note: Thanks for the routines you passed on to GREG, but MAXAM is more complicated than

DAMS....), We're not part of any group — we just do the fanz BOXON, with maybe some demos planned for later on.....

BABAR :

What are your passions in general, and do you take part in meetings, and which ones ...?????

SPHYNX:

My passions are: raves (Space, trance and hardcore)... I love the atmosphere !!!! and of course death Metal..

The CPC and video games in general. Women, of course !! sadly I've now been single for more than 3 months ....

Martial arts and tennis....

As for meetings, I've only ever taken part in one meeting, the SHAM one in

AUGUST 93 at MASEVAUX (20 km from my place)...

(BABAR's note: That's not very far from my place, roughly 80 kms — the

VOSGES and ALSACE are right next door....) BABAR :

What are your favourite progs — that is, utilities, demos, fanzines, games (etc....)

SPHYNX:

Anything to do with music -

(my dream would be to find digitracker in a stereo version...... who knows !! maybe one day such a piece of software will exist on CPC ??)..

Otherwise I find OCP a very good utility; in demos I go for VOYAGE 93' or the Telepatique demo; in games I love: Terre & Conquerant and all the war-strategy games like NORD & SUD; and my favourite paper fanzine is ..... is ......... is 'BABA FANZ' (BABAR's note: Wooooowww ----------- I've pissed all over the place.. Thanks SPHYNX. See you soon for a little paper fanz' — its name will be; oh, you'll see soon enough when it comes out.)..

No, no, I'm not sucking up !!! I've totally fallen for

  • BABA FANZ -

Otherwise, on the disc side, MAD-MAG 2 doesn't seem bad either — it's 100 % compatible with my CRTC 2, and that's pretty rare...

- And so this column reaches its end. The whole BBF team thanks 'SPHYNX' for his collaboration on this issue, which I hope will win over more than a few of you.

  • From now on I'm part of the group

SCORPION — thanks to GREG for asking so kindly to ..... SONIC 3

See you in a future issue !!!!

end of this mega fanzine.

I hope you had an excellent time in our company and that you enjoyed this issue. Doing it on disc, at first it was a dream, but now thanks to TOM & JERRY and his GHOUL'S WRITER, well, that dream has come true.

All through this issue we've tried to be clear, to give you as much information as possible. I hope we pulled that off...

You'll have noticed that this issue came out pretty fast, and that's thanks to people crazy about this fabulous computer, so a big loud thank you to BABAR, NO RECESS, ATC, GREES and DUNK.

Together we make a pretty tight-knit team, and that's what let you enjoy this issue from start to finish.

Now here are the credits for all the sections:

Right, that's it for the credits, so let me tell you about 2 or 3 more things and then I'll leave you.

Thanks to all the CPCists for staying active. I'm thinking especially of: FUTURS', ELIOT, EPSILON for their games and of course all the guys still producing on CPC, and there are still loads of them !!!

We'll see you again in about 2 months for an even more BOOTIFUL issue of BABA FANZ, and don't miss the release, in about 3 months, of the new paper fanzine PUNCH either.

Right, I'll leave you now and hand over to BABAR, but first here's the list of GREETINGS:

DRACULA,NICKY ONE,NO RECESS,ATC,SONIC '3,CANON,KANEDA,AST, RAMLAID, SPHYNX, BIP BIP,GREES,CHANY,ORPHEE,RAINBIRD , DUNK,LE REDACTEUR,RAZOR,CRACKY,BARTHY ,SIRIUS,FIFI,PEPITO,OFFSET,ZIK,ZACK , MAGE,EPSILON,SEB,ORYCHALK,ELIOT,MICK'RO,FRANCK,ROM,TOM POUCE,ANTOINE,J/S , E/J and I do believe that's the lot!!

So here's BABAR for the end of this section...

Here I am, this is BABAR speaking to you live from the editorial desk...

I want to thank all the readers of BABA FANZ' because they've been writing to us ever since issue 3 arrived

It's from that issue on that we started getting more and more mail.

I hope lots of you will ask us for the next issue of BABA FANZ' 5, which is going to be a smash hit too.

Let me correct a mistake that crept into this issue: in fact there won't be any merger between the fanz BABA FANZ and GHOUL'S FANZ, because if you think about it, that means losing a fanzine.

Everyone to your keyboards, get working to keep the C.P.C alive......

P.S: You'll most likely discover --- at the end of this fanzine 1 or two demos once you press the space key.

SEE YOU NEXT TIME
