congratulations on making a borring keyframed demo, only displaying scenes exported from your favorite modeller.

Nice style-3d-flyby with a funky tune. Sorry for the tooltip bit in the screenshot. ;)

Tomaes: ‘S’ Key for ScreenShot when watching the demo works fine too :P
— norecess, 2003-03-24
Yeah, another flyby. Visually it’s quite nice, but if you’re going to do a flyby, at least take the time to use decent frame composition. (rule of thirds, leading space, director’s line, etc…) All the same, it’s not as bad as many other productions.
— sea_monkey, 2003-03-24
3d flybys is boring! But much of the modelling was really nice. Textures looked really good and the music was a really kick-ass song!
— ekoli, 2003-03-24
I like the visuals and music a lot. A demo I’ll watch again and again :) Perhaps some framings and the cut are perfectible, but if you consider that everything was put together in a hurry at the party place, the result is pretty terrific.
— neurox, 2003-03-24 · rulez
Nice design but quite a simple script and too few scenes. Music synch is good, but it’s not everything. :)

Was ranked 2nd at the demoparty, between a Pegasos demo and an Amiga PPC one.

this is very kewl.. even if i usually don’t like flybyes.. stylish graphics, very nice to see fra’s design in a new mandarine demo.. ++ for the funky soundtrack btw, what’s that buggy diagonal black line in the middle of the screen ? render to texture artefact ? i have a gf4go with 31.30..
— florent, 2003-03-24 · rulez
\31.10 more precisely

flrnt: fucking noise effect !! =P I noticied disabling hardware antialiasing remove that buggy diagonal black line..
— norecess, 2003-03-24
norecess: oh yah, it’s not my kind of music and the 3d looks like a plugin-gallery.
— rasmus is danish, 2003-03-24
RA5MUS: so please, tell that it’s not your type of demos instead of telling us that the demo is boring..

Tomaes: use Irfanview for screenshots. Demo: the rendering engine looks very nice. cool colors, good design, etc. the music is also cool. this demo rockz.

— superplek, 2003-03-24
wow, i think i never use hardware antialiasing , my gf4go 420 is slow enough without =) don’t worry some other demos have the same kind of artefacts =)
— florent, 2003-03-24
wow, impressive staff :) Very very interesting design and ambience, just a bit too short :/
— Sanx, 2003-03-24 · rulez
“and the 3d looks like a plugin-gallery.” - uhm, lightwave have builtin radiosity renderer , so does max5, the rest is kindof, standard 3d.. i have that line bug to, and ofcourse i use antialiasing, but not the same tech. as nVidia one, so my guess is simply that its buggy code :-)

RA5MUS -> can you please tell me what plug did I used ? handmade polygons models + shadow maps + a few keyframes : are those things PLUG-INS for you ? Could you tell me what software are we allowed to use without being considered as a plug-in-abuser ? Should we use notepad.exe for modeling and debug.exe for texturing ? Just tell me my 3D is boring or you don’t like my style, this would be OK.

Very nice mood and design. I liked it. We could say that the music doesn’t really fit the visuals (or the contrary), but the very good job on synchronization makes the global thing very nice and coherent. PS : yeah i know it sucks to thumb up a prod of his own group but 1) i’m french, and everybody knows french and their selfishness are ruining pouet.net 2) i didn’t take part to this demo and well, i don’t give a fuck :)

fra/norecess: relax, it’s not a personal assault im trying to conduct. i merely stated that i didn’t like the overall feeling from the demo. i’m sure your modelling skills are evil; and the scenes looks pretty – but they gave me the impression that it was someone doing tests of various plugins (fx. a shadowmap plugin which has become so popular lately). in particular i liked the scene in the screenshot because of the growing red-thingies. now there. elaborated.

Indeed, it’s a little bit empty. ‘guess we lost the storyline in the hurry. Errr, that’s quite usual nowadays :/ For the fake-GI-look you’re talking about Rasmus, i admit : i used this demo to make some experiments with lighting schemes, staging and so on. That’s why i’m doing demos : experiment. It might be boring to certain people, ‘Redline’ being obviously far from being the perfect demo.

— analogue, 2003-03-26 · rulez
thumb up, for the fun :) So, Tawny, let’s making some things clear. “No design. No Code. No music. No spirit.” No design -> you like or not, you simply can’t say there’s no design (and I really like this one). No Code -> maybe, that’s right, not too much effects here, we were slapped by time, even if I think we can consider the (good) player as code anyway. I’m not responsible for this part, and it’s a very good replayer we have. No Music -> “ahahah”. Sorry, you’re just out of topic here. Maybe you dislike the music, hey it’s art, sure not everyone will like it. I do, most of people think it feets perfectly the demo. You can have your opinion, but you can’t say it’s bad music (as your musician if I recall ok) No Spirit -> I don’t know what you want. I really can’t understand this. Conclusion : I don’t know if you really enjoyed the demo, maybe, maybe not, and in fact, I don’t care about this. What I care about, is the fact that you waited for the next demo I worked on, and you flamed it, just because I flamed your some years ago. It’s quite lame to flame others work because you don’t like me. This demo is 1/ graphically nice 2/ smooth 3/ musically very good And sorry, I keep my opinion, as MANY other guys, we can’t say that about the crap bill gates thing you group released. Just think 5mn before flaming. (Jylam, who will be very happy to see this type of comments if they were constructives, at least a bit)
— Jylam, 2003-03-26 · rulez
Ho shit, forgot something :) “jylam on windows, haha!” 1/ I never made a demo where bill gates is evil and the penguin an angel. 2/ The Linux version of the demo has been coded at the same time as the win32 version, expect release very soon same conclusion as the top message

Yeah! I’ve enjoyed this one a lot! great work, not too many demos important released since The S (for me), this reminds me the colouir style, so you guys have a style?¿ funny effect on that Thombthumb alike Red likes evolving, cool ilumination, and great shadowmaps- You’ve benn using Luminaire on this one? the music it’s funny enough, and quite good sincro. BUT hey! there’s some kind of bug, beware of the delay in the very first frames shown at the beginning, you’re precalculing some tables? cause this, the music END before the demo, and looses some sincronism
— JaK, 2003-03-26 · rulez

Knowing some of the graphics from times ago it’s a pity it looks like a scene throwing in the end. Althought the music is good in itself it doesn’t really fit the picture. Synchros are a bit dull and not so timed. On the positive side the graphic style is damn good but doesn’t render as well as when I was first shown it (strange wires in the space burger, jaggy 16bit zbuffer, washed out 16 bit textures -> DirectX c’est naze mais Nono arrête OpenGL ou alors régle ces problémes! Tu les traine depuis une eternité!). The music is really good when listened out of the demo, there’s was plenty of room for great visual work something Fra manage very well when he take the time to. I would have liked some framing effect during the landscape cuts, better video/audio coherence, even a thin story line to follow would have helped to compensate for the lack of rythm. Also I really hate 640x480 almost as much as my uxga tft does. Considering the currently available demo panel this one is okay to see but has major flaws.

— cats, 2003-03-28 · rulez
tonton clafouti : the engine development is being stopped ; new framework is on the way (OOP rules!) ; GL is a nice cross-platform API but DX remains the best 3D API for Win platform ; Music is damn good and I agree, Fra artwork has not been extended to his limit due to the engine limitations… Blah, don’t know what to say, we will do better next time. Probably not a demo, things are evolving with time and I become more and more interested my videogame/tools programming.. Thanks for your comment!

Not sure someone mentioned it, but this demo ran entirely on JFYE, @NoRecess’s Lightwave 6 scene player. Indeed, 3D scene re-players were some kind of national specialty, here, in France, during the 90’s-ish. Some liked it, but it admit the method in itself had some shortcoming. Thanks Nono, Med, Jylam and the rest of the team for the great opportunity to work on this lil’cute prod.
